A little bit about me.

I am a 25 year old visual artist currently residing in Greensboro, N.C.

I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Printmaking in the summer of 2017 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Growing up, I lived in a small town called Brevard in western N.C. that leads right into Pisgah National Forest. I spent plenty of time in the forest as I grew up. Brevard is also within close proximity to Asheville which is where I spent a lot of my time throughout high school.

Many of my experiences of camping, hiking, swimming, skateboarding, and exploring the forests of western North Carolina influence my artistic concepts and the person that I am today. I still enjoy and participate in these activities as much as possible.

In terms of artistic influence, skateboarding was the activity that kept me out of trouble as a kid and I give skateboarding the credit for inspiring me to take drawing at least somewhat seriously at a young age. I first started skateboarding around eight years old. As I progressed in skateboarding and learned more about the culture I became hyper aware of the visual world that came along with it. I was blown away by the ultra bright and graphic drawings I was seeing at the time. I started to notice how shading was rendered on skateboard graphics and how different visual tricks were employed to create various illusions in drawing. I began to take notice of color layering in the silkscreened graphics and different types of line work that were used. In my mind, doors were flying open.

The freeing feeling of skateboarding combined with the freedom of drawing was everything I needed and nearly all that I cared about for a large portion of my childhood and teenage life.

As time went on, I found that I enjoyed creating drawings and designs to the point that I wanted to get serious about it. I decided that I wanted to learn how to really articulate the ideas that were popping into my head. I started taking art classes my sophomore year of high school. I was fortunate enough to learn darkroom photography, graphic design, screen printing, ceramics, and many other practices before I left high school. That allowed me to experiment with a variety of different mediums and that exposure to the world of art that I received at my public high school led me into the position I am in today.

My goal as an artist is simply to express myself through creating things (whatever they may be) and to use the tools that I have learned in the visual field to help others around me do the same.

I currently run a small business called “Log’s Layers Llc” that does custom screen printing out of Greensboro, N.C. We print shirts, hoodies, skateboards, posters, etc… Please find the contact page in the top navigation bar if you’d like to get a project started with me.

Thank you for taking the time to come to this webpage and for entertaining my ideas.
